Bald Eagles are nesting across from St. Peter’s on-the-Rock church near Collin’s Island on Stony Lake. The pictures were taken by Jeff Jones the week of June 3rd and by Rob Welsh on June 12. From the Jone’s photo, there appear to be two eaglets in the nest.
According to Tim Dyson, a local naturalist and long-time eagle watcher, a pair of eagles built a nest last year on a small island off of Davis Manor. The Manor is located on Davis Island, not far from this year’s nest. Two young were raised successfully. In August of 2012, the adults were seen deconstructing this nest and moving it, stick by stick, to an unknown
location. Tim is guessing that the new nest may very well be the nest located near St. Peter’s on-the-Rock.
With the nests on Buckhorn and Katchewanooka, we now have at least three active eagle nests in Peterborough County.
