At 10:30 a.m. on Sunday March 2, I was walking up the woods trail which goes straight up Armour Hill, starting just south of the swingset. Almost at the top where it opens onto Museum property, there is a tree which has fallen across the trail. Just prior to that there is a small secondary trail which runs north off the main trail. About 10 feet along this trail I saw a Great Horned Owl asleep in a deciduous tree, about 20 feet up.I was alerted at first by a group of 11 crows who were cawing and flying around the trees. Then I saw and heard (perhaps) a Cooper’s Hawk. When he flew away I noticed the clump in the tree behind, and then discovered it was the owl. It was exciting!
