At least 20 Dark-eyed Juncos appeared in the yard this morning, probably having taken advantage of the north winds to move southward with the cold front that has arrived. They are eating the niger seed I’ve scattered in small piles on the ground. A Hermit Thrush was with them as well. Scattering seed on the ground is good way to attract more species of birds.

Lots of Brown Creepers moving through this week, too, along with Golden-crowned and Ruby-crowned kinglets.
